Operation Kitten Rescue

Isn't life interestiing! We discovered that a feral cat had 4 kittens under our front porch. So, after doing some research, we decided we needed to catch the kittens before they got to old and afraid of us. Here are some pictures of our adventure.

C is for Caterpillar

This week we worked on the letter "C". I found the ideas for this letter on this website here .

We used the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle.

As we read the story, DQ laced the food as caterpillar munched his way along

When the caterpillar was done eating, we put him in his "cocoon"

Voila! a Butterfly!!

Also during the week, we did more lacing

And for Math, a graph of how much our caterpillar ate :)

It was a great week!

Busiest week of the year

Another St. Patrick's Day has come and gone for us. It is such a busy time for family activities, dancing, parades, birthdays....I find it hard to just slow down and enjoy the ride. I have lots of pictures to share since it has been so long since I last posted.

The girls participated in the parade again this year. It started off as a beautiful spring day....

After the parade, the city sponsors a festival with food and rides for the kids

After riding some rides, we headed down to the stage for lunch and to get ready to dance.

But just as we got down there, a TREMENDOUS wind started blowing and thunder clapped and the temperature dropped about 20 degrees. They had to postpone the show temporarily and after that we were all freezing!!!

Proud Mama and her girls!!

Later that evening, the girls went to a father/daughter dance with their daddy. Here is a great photo of them getting ready to leave.

They had a lot of fun with daddy at the dance but when they got home they were exhausted and headed straight to bed. It was a great day but next year I think we will all remember to bring jackets. You never know what direction that March wind will blow :)

Letter H is for Hippo

I found a great new blog that has some really terrific ideas for letters of the Alphabet. Here are the activities for the Letter "H". Drama Queen had a great time working through them. Thanks to Confessions of a Homeschooler for the great downloads. They can be found here.

We started with a Bible verse to sort featuring the letter H

Next we did a puzzle "H is for Hippo"

Then we used thumbtacks to outline Letter H. Great for muscle development.

We finished with an art project where we made a Hippo

All in all it was a great day!

5 Years and Counting.....

February 10th is a day that will forever be burned into my memory. It is the day I went to the Dr. thinking I had a breast infection and left knowing that I had breast cancer. This week I had my 5 year anniversary from that day. I am now considered officially cured!!!! Even though my diagnosis was terrifying, cancer brings with it many blessings. It was God's way of saying "Hey, you down there, you need to stop and take a look around sometime". Thankfully, His plan was for me to still be here and carry out His plans for me. My life changed 100% that day and most of it was positive. I have in my life everything I could ever want. I am so thankful.
I want to thank my family, friends, and loved ones who supported me through 2 years of treatments and more. I couldn't have made it without you....... I love each and everyone of you :)
I especially want to thank my husband who probably felt like he had cancer too. We made it through and are still standing together. I love you and Happy Valentine's Day.

Snow'in in Southland

We finally had some winter weather come our way last weekend. We had a few days of snow and ice and cool temperatures that kept it around a few days instead of the overnight melt that we usually have. Mom Mom and Grandpa have moved to a new house with a great sledding hill so we met the "couzins" and took advantage of the lingering snow. Everyone had a ball. They are calling for snow again tomorrow if you can believe it. Can't remember when the weather has been this dicey around here for two weeks straight. Must have the global warmer's scratching their heads. Here's to you Al Gore :)

Don't you just love Wolife's outfit?

My sister and niece trying a turn

We made it!!!!

Leonardo Da Vinci and his gang

It has been a busy week for us here at 5C's. We have been learning about the Renaissance for the past couple of weeks. Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Raphael (do the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles come to mind LOL). We learned about Christopher Columbus and his 3 ships. Wolfie said they were the Nina, Pinta, and the Mayflower. UGH! Really?!! Thank goodness Princess knew the names and politely corrected Wolfie of his error. You should have seen his face :o I have been trying to come up with some new ways to make their learning more fun and not so monotonous. I read on another blog (can't think where at the moment) of a file folder game for Vocabulary words. So I made some this week for them to use.

They were a big hit and hopefully they learned some new words in the process.

Powder Puff Derby

This is a little late in posting but I wanted to put pictures of Caitlin's 1st Powder Puff Derby on the blog. The girls have gotten involved in Girl Scouts this year and are absolutely loving it. I volunteered to be a Co-leader of Princesses troop (I know, I am crazy!) and we are really having a great time.

Here are the Cars lined up before the race. Such Creativity!

Princess's is the 4th from the left

We all LOVED this one !

It's an Irish Dance shoe

Here she is ready to race

Ready, Set, GO!

She placed second twice, and had one third place. She missed out on winning the Brownie trophy by one other girl. Her father is a boy scout dad also and his boys always wins their Pinewood Derby. GRRRR. Daddy is feeling very inspired (and competitive) for next year :)

Here is Princess with her ribbons

Drama Queen is looking a little Miffed :(

A hug from Aunt Sara always makes things right

Next year daddy is going to have to do 2 cars so he better start his planning now !!!
